The Bahamas

Bimini

Fifty nautical miles from Miami. Twenty minutes by seaplane. A private island estate at the end of it.

The island

Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the United States — fifty nautical miles from Miami, and the place Hemingway wrote Islands in the Stream. North Bimini is seven miles long and a few hundred yards wide; Rockwell Island sits at its quiet end. The Gulf Stream passes just offshore, which is why the fishing is what it is.

Getting here

Seaplane from Miami or Fort Lauderdale: about twenty minutes, landing on the water in front of the island. Scheduled flights land at South Bimini (BIM) with a short ferry across. Private boats clear customs at Alice Town. We coordinate all three.

On the water

Bonefishing on the flats, reef snorkelling, wreck dives on the Sapona, and the offshore grounds for marlin and tuna. Dolphins are regular. The estate has dock access and we book guides and captains on request.

Good to know

Eastern Time. US dollars are accepted everywhere. Passports required. Bring less than you think — the island is casual and the house is stocked.
